In this year´s Baco Wine Awards edition, organized by the Spanish Association of Wine Tasters (UEC) to acknowledge young vintage wines, one of our contestants, Luis Armero, winemaker and owner of Armero i Adrover Winery, has been rewarded with the Silver Baco for his vintage white wine Son Ravell, made with the Viognier grape variety. Luis Armero is one of the most prestigious wine professional in the island. Together with other pioneers in the matter, he embarked in this adventure almost fourty years ago, with the goal of taking the quality of Mallorcan wines to the next level, with great success. The current expansion of the wine industry and the increasing number of new wineries in Mallorca cannot be explained without the great contribution of this group of wine passionate that changed the way of making wine in the island.
Giorgia Scaramella, sommelier of Marc Fosh Restaurant in Palma and Member of the Balearic Association of Sommeliers, has tasted the wine Son Ravell, as you can see in the following video. Giorgia was born in the Italian region of Friuli Venezia, one of the most prestigious wine regions in the country. From a young age, she showed a great interest and fondness for this matter, learning all about wine in her spare time while studying Latin and Greek at high school. Later she completed her Sommelier training in London, and round off her studies by acquiring the globar WSET title and Masters degree in the tasting of Jerez and Rioja wines. She has been living in Mallorca since 2014, and has become an excellent connoisseur of the wines of the island. Although she doesn´t have any favourite grape variety, she has a special preference for wines made with Giro Ros and Escurçac, both local white and red grape varieties.
